La Ribera is an open, flat area. The sunshine and fertile market gardens along the banks of the Ebro contrast with the semi-desertlike Bardenas Reales, declared a Natural Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
The aridity of this area is in total contrast with its people, extroverted and fun-loving, who express themselves best in popular traditions and festivities.
The multicultural nature of this land has a strong historical basis. The capital of La Ribera, Tudela, recalls the centuries-long peaceful co-existence between Arabs, Jews and Christians through its streets and buildings, such as the beautiful cathedral of Santa María, which was built on the site of an ancient mosque. Nearby is Corella, another capital, this time of Navarrese Baroque architecture.
